The Polaris RS-1 features a rear trailing arm suspension with radius rods similar to the RZR XP 1000 & XP Turbo, designed to enhance handling through camber changes. However, the stock Polaris radius rods are mounted in a weak single-shear fashion. Thunderhawk Performance addresses this issue with a patent-pending double-shear upgrade for the RS-1, inspired by their successful design for the RZR.
The Thunderhawk double-shear radius rod mount replaces the stock stiffener plate, adding top and bottom frame mounting points for increased strength. This design eliminates flex, deformation, and cracking around the radius rod mounting holes. The double-shear mount enhances frame and suspension strength, providing a superior solution for real-world driving conditions, whether racing or trail-riding.
The Thunderhawk double-shear radius rod mount is compatible with Polaris and most aftermarket frame-mount bumpers or rear roll cages using Polaris-style frame mounts. It features a differential fluid service access hole and simplifies rear suspension work. Fitment depends on the width of the radius rods; the RS-1 double-shear plate accommodates 1 3/8" wide radius rods, common in both stock and most aftermarket options.
Potential issues with rear bumpers are addressed, with the double-shear plate fitting Polaris Extreme rear bumpers and certain aftermarket frame-mount bumpers. The installation process takes approximately 30-45 minutes, and the plate has a durable black powder coat finish. However, it is essential to note that it does not fit the RZR XP 1000, XP Turbo, or XP Turbo-S (72" wide model). The Thunderhawk Performance double-shear radius rod mount is made in the USA and is recommended for strengthening the frame of almost all RS-1 models, offering protection against frame damage in various riding conditions.
